Success!

Flying House 2010 was a huge success. Thank you to all two hundred+ of you who ventured out into the horrible Chicago weather and made it to the studio.

From the artists’ perspective, there was mention of (and a little clapping for) how nice it was to step aside from advertising for a night. Apparently, great ideas don’t get muddled down by too-large copyright lines and bright red price points when the artists don’t have large corporations to please (wink).

Likewise, the writers had a blast reading to such a diverse group of people, the majority of whom had never been to a reading before! For once, we weren’t just talking to ourselves. Who knows, we just might have converted some friends to the literary short story.

After the show, tons of people stuck around to gab with the writers and artists, and many of the artworks were sold right off the wall. Gobs of people asked about the show next year and—as there was a large amount of alcohol imbibed—I want to remind you all to go to the website “Apply” link and fill out an application if you’re interested. We’ll be looking through them all winter long. We are so excited for all the interest and can’t wait to make Flying House an annual event. Next year, we’re looking into grants and sponsors and we hope to be able to keep this as free to the artists, writers and public as possible.

To all of you Kickstarter backers, if you weren't able to pick up your anthology at the show, we'll be dropping it in the mail shortly. To anyone else who wants to purchase an anthology, please email TheFlyingHouseEmail.com

Once again, thank you to everyone who made this night possible. We’ll be posting pictures and videos soon, so please check back often.

Megan Johnson, I have your umbrella.
